About Our Event

Greetings and welcome to the 4th Muhammadiyah International Public Health and Medicine Conference. We are delighted to announce the next conference, which will focus on the examination of recent progress and innovations in the domain of geriatric health. The conference will be centered around the overarching theme:

“Aging and Public Policy: Shaping Inclusive Healthcare Systems for the Elderly”

According to projections, the proportion of the global population that is elderly, with a specific focus on Asia, is anticipated to reach a minimum of 30% by the year 2030 (https://www2.deloitte.com/nz/en/footerlinks/pressreleasespage/asia-home-to-60-percent-of-worlds-over-65s-by-2030.html).

However, when examining the broader perspective, this figure may appear less persuasive due to its portrayal of significant economic challenges, indicating a pressing problem that necessitates attention and resolution. One of the primary focal areas examined in relation to the Asian economy pertains to the significant upsurge observed in the Asian economy subsequent to 2003. Notably, countries such as India, Singapore, Indonesia, China, and Taiwan have emerged as leaders in driving economic expansion (https://doi.org/10.3390/ijerph18041801). The notable expansion of society throughout time can be attributed to various factors, as highlighted by Lin and Wang (https://doi.org/10.3389/fpubh.2020.00291). These factors include the development in the number of individuals with middle-income status, the fall of the tech bubble, and the prolonged life expectancy. With the progression of the global population’s aging demographic, there arises a growing imperative to establish healthcare systems that are inclusive and cater to the specific needs of the elderly. The challenging task of catering to the distinct health requirements of aging populations necessitates the implementation of comprehensive policy frameworks and treatments. Multiple policy considerations have been identified by diverse sources, highlighting the significance of inclusive healthcare systems for the elderly.

The recognition of healthy aging as a significant public health concern is acknowledged by the World Health Organization (WHO). In nations lacking universal healthcare, elderly adults may encounter difficulties in obtaining healthcare services that are suitable for their age, particularly in rural regions of low-income countries. Policies targeting health determinants, including but not limited to access to healthcare and social services, risk behaviors, and health literacy, play a vital role in promoting the well-being of older individuals. In addition, the implementation of initiatives aimed at mitigating disparities in the aging population encompasses the provision of enhanced accessibility to healthcare services and the establishment of well financed pension systems.

Healthcare systems frequently lack optimization in addressing the distinctive health requirements of older adults, resulting in obstacles such as exorbitant expenses, limited availability of medications, and instances of age-based prejudice. In order to tackle these issues, the World Bank proposes the conceptualization of primary healthcare for the elderly in a new light, emphasizing its integration with many other person-centered care approaches such as community care, secondary and tertiary care, and long-term care. The objective of this method is to establish primary healthcare systems that exhibit heightened sensitivity and comprehensiveness in addressing the requirements of elderly individuals, while concurrently managing expenses.

A number of states have successfully implemented or formulated complete strategies aimed at providing support to aging populations. These strategies encompass various measures such as the expansion of health coverage and the implementation of consumer protection mechanisms, all while grappling with the challenge of rising prices. These initiatives demonstrate an increasing acknowledgment of the necessity for comprehensive policy strategies in order to effectively tackle the healthcare requirements of the aged population.

The increasing proportion of elderly individuals in the population will exert significant pressure on healthcare systems, funding mechanisms, and families, mostly attributable to the inadequate personal savings allocated for long-term care and the fragmented nature of the healthcare delivery system. Policymakers at all levels must prioritize the allocation of resources towards meeting the specific requirements of the aged population, which entails the restructuring of the healthcare workforce to effectively manage the numerous chronic illnesses that are commonly observed within this susceptible demographic.

The establishment of a healthcare system that actively combats ageism is of utmost importance in enhancing the quality of treatment provided to the elderly population. This entails the establishment of healthcare systems that are conducive to the needs of older individuals on a worldwide scale, the mitigation of obstacles that impede their access to healthcare services, the enhancement of education and training programs for healthcare professionals, and the guarantee of fair and equal access to novel vaccinations and therapies for older populations.

In summary, the establishment of inclusive healthcare systems for the aged necessitates a complete strategy that encompasses the reduction of health disparities, acknowledges the distinct requirements of aging demographics, and enacts comprehensive legislative frameworks. By deconceptualizing primary healthcare, incorporating person-centered care, and establishing healthcare systems that combat ageism, societies can strive to guarantee that older adults receive the necessary care and assistance to promote healthy and thriving aging.

We express our sincere appreciation to all attendees, presenters, and those who have contributed to the success of the 4th Muhammadiyah International Public Health and Medicine Conference, as the event comes to a close. Under the theme “Aging and Public Policy: Shaping Inclusive Healthcare Systems for the Elderly,” our endeavor involved a process of investigation, cooperation, and motivation, thereby laying the groundwork for a forthcoming era in which healthcare systems actively accommodate the many requirements of our aging communities.

During the course of this conference, we have observed the significant impact of shared information and the capacity for informed public policy to bring about profound changes. The intellectually stimulating talks, innovative research presentations, and intellectually challenging panels have shed light on the way forward in developing inclusive healthcare settings that promote the physical and emotional welfare and respect of older individuals.

As we contemplate the primary goals of this conference, which encompass the demonstration of policy innovations and the resolution of healthcare inequities, it becomes evident that the collective dedication to enhancing the well-being of the aged serves as a motivating factor that surpasses geographical and disciplinary boundaries. The conference serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas and also motivates participants to actively engage in the continuing discourse on aging and public policy.

The dissemination of research findings and the exchange of ideas that took place during this event are expected to have a significant impact on the development and evolution of healthcare systems on a global scale. The demonstration of a collaborative spirit in this context serves to strengthen our conviction that by implementing inclusive policies, advancing technological innovations, and fostering a collective dedication to equity, we have the capacity to establish healthcare systems that serve as strong foundations of support for the elderly. This, in turn, contributes to the creation of a society where every person, irrespective of their age or socio-economic background, is afforded equal access to high-quality healthcare services.

As we conclude this conference, it is imperative that we retain the knowledge acquired and the relationships established, and apply them effectively within our individual disciplines and communities. May the knowledge and perspectives presented in this discourse persistently contribute to the development of policies, direct the course of research, and stimulate practical actions aimed at improving the health and overall quality of life for our elderly populations.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all individuals who made valuable contributions towards the accomplishment of the 4th Muhammadiyah International Public Health and Medicine Conference. The user’s commitment to promoting the discussion surrounding aging and public policy plays a crucial role in influencing a future in which healthcare systems are characterized by inclusivity, compassion, and responsiveness to the distinct requirements of the elderly population.

We express our gratitude for your participation in this profound and impactful endeavor. We anticipate forthcoming cooperation and endeavors that will continue to enhance the progress of public health and medicine at the international level.
